Qualifying Online for WSOP

We are only a couple of weeks away from the start of the biggest event in the gambling world. The World Series of Poker starts at the end of this month at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. This is the 39th annual event and this year it is set to be even bigger and better than ever. A record number of events with a record number of entrants will make Las Vegas buzz like never before.. and it will last for over 6 weeks until the “MAIN EVENT” is complete on the 14th July.

It is a strange one this year though because the main event doesn´t actually complete on July 14th. The 11 days leading up to the 14th will see the starting field wittle it´s way down from 12,000 people to just 9. This 9 will be the final table. And all those at the final table are guaranteed a large pay day.

That final table will not be played until Sunday November 9th. On this sunday the 9 will be reduced to the final 2. The heads up between these 2 will take place on Monday 10th November when the Main Event champion will be crowned.

Of course last month saw the WPT World Championship event take place in Las Vegas at The Bellagio. This was a 1 week event and attracted over 500 of the world top players. Each entrant had to stump up a $25,000 buy in, online casino poker players are not allowed and cannot win entry via online sattelite tourneys. This WPT championship is the forerunner to the WSOP and many feel that it can give a clue as to who is in form and who isn´t.

The fact is that these are 2 very different events. The WSOP is open to 12,000 people… anyone that can and wants to find the $10,000 buy in. And of course many, many online qualifiers. The randomness and unknown quantities are what makes this so special. Because of this it is very rare for a top professional to win the WSOP Main Event. That is why many people regard the WPT World Championship as the main “who´s the best” at poker. The WPT event is liited to professionals that have been on the tour and have paid their $25,000 buy in. Only the true professionals actually play. This is the real world championship… but it is not so much fun as the main event… and the winnings aren´t as big.

Last month saw David Chiu beat Gus Hansen in the final heads up. Crowning David as Poker World Champion and giving him almost $3.5 million. Well done david. We hope you do well at the World Series.
